This page contains Remington Arms Company shotgun shell headstamp photos and production date ranges. The date ranges below are not exact but an estimation of production dates based on available information. If you are aware of evidence that proves a date range on a brand of shell is incorrect then please email me with a photo of said evidence so I can change the date.
Eliphalet Remington II began producing weapons in 1816 and started the Remington brand. In 1888 Remington was purchased by the owners of UMC and the Winchester Repeating Arms company. Remington had a name change to Remington Arms Company and they were producing ammunition at UMC’s Bridgeport factory. In 1912 Remington and UMC were merged to form Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company shortened to Remington UMC on shotshell headstamps. 1916 saw them drop the hyphen and become Remington

Arrow Express | Gauge | Comments | Date Range |
---|---|---|---|
No 12 | Head, primer cup and primer appear to be the same metal (non-magnetic). Brass height is high with remnants of REMINGTON-UMC written around the outside between two lines. The first mention of this shot I can find is in the 1929 catalog, however, this shot is using the Arrow shell at this time. I think it quite likely the first arrow express headstamp is 1934 when they make the new Nitro Express headstamp. 1947 is the last mention I can find in the dealer’s price lists for this line of shells.
