Cogswell & Harrison Headstamps

This page contains Cogswell & Harrison shotshell headstamp photos and production date ranges. The date ranges below are not exact but an estimation of production dates based on available information. If you are aware of evidence that proves a date range on a brand of shell is incorrect then please email me with a photo of said evidence so I can change the date.

Cogswell & Harrison Ltd was formed in 1896 but they had a hundred-year history of gun making prior to this new company being formed. Cogswell & Harrison Ltd continued to produce guns but also introduced a line of shotshells. In 1907 an offshoot of the company was formed to supply wholesale cartridges and powder to the market, it was called the Cogswell & Harrison Manufacturing Company (CHMC). In 1909 an agreement was reached with Schultze Gunpowder company to supply them with CHMC shells in exchange for their powders, a joint company called Cogschultze was formed. 1911 saw Cogschultze become solely owned by Cogswell & Harrison when Schultze Powder Company was bought by Eley. The Cogschultze company appears to have been liquidated in 1919. Cogswell & Harrison was liquidated in 1932 but revived again in 1933. The last date shotshells were made is currently unknown.
