While traveling through country Victoria recently, I camped at a hotel in Gippsland which offered sites to passing travelers. The hotel had not been there long just 30 years or so, still, I was hoping I might find a few coins around it. Luckily there was no grass to speak of so I could keep my holes neat and tidy. I found very little around the front and sides except for a penny which must have been lost before the hotel was built.
Out the back of the hotel, a hit upon a $2 coin quickly followed by another and soon had $20 in my pocket. A couple of hours later and I had pulled up nearly 50 coins for $43.
Days like these are handy when your traveling and short on cash, although I may have spent most of this money back inside the hotel later that day. Metal detecting can be thirsty work.
